Canadian Coins 25 Cents 2015 Haunted Canada: Brakeman

Ghosts, unexplained events and hauntings… there is no shortage of these stories from across Canada. Many have been told and retold so often that fact and fiction are nearly indistinguishable from one another. Canadians of all ages delight in sharing these tales of life and death, of love and tragedy, and of duty and devotion—including the haunting story of the headless brakeman, as retold by this second coin in the Haunted Canada series of lenticular coins.

A beautiful gift for those who love both ghost stories and tragic love stories, and a great addition to any specialty coin collection.

About the Design:
Its reverse design features spectacular lenticular technology that masterfully tells the chilling tale of Vancouver's headless brakeman. In one image, the dark train tunnel is suddenly illuminated by the bright glow of a lantern as an otherworldly figure emerges before the viewer, dressed in a railway uniform from 1928. Chillingly, the brakeman appears without a head, with two small, glowing orbs that create the illusion of eyes peering out towards the viewer. When the coin is tilted to the other side, the light suddenly goes out, leaving the viewer alone in the darkness with this shadowy presence, as the ill-fated brakeman continues his eternal walk along the train tracks.
Obverse: The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Mintage: 15000.
Composition: monoply nickel plated steel.

The second in the Royal Canadian Mint's Haunted Canada series of coins, which brings to life some of Canada's legendary ghost stories.
The lenticular design retells the chilling tale of Vancouver's headless brakeman; by tilting the coin from side to side, the ghostly apparition of the brakeman is seen in great detail before the light from the lantern suddenly goes out, leaving the viewer alone in the dark train tunnel with this eerie, shadowy presence.
The first coin in the series proved to be very popular with collectors, and this coin will likely be just as sought-after.
A thrilling and original gift for those who enjoy a good ghost story.
An affordable way to introduce a young person to the excitement of coin collecting.

The magic of the holidays often lies in the traditions that create some of our most treasured memories. And for many Canadians, the selection of a Christmas tree is as much of a time-honoured tradition as decorating one! This stylized lenticular coin follows one tree's journey from the outdoors to an indoor setting, where it plays a central role in one family's joyous holiday celebrations.

Obverse: Susanna Blunt’s design of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Reverse: This coin features a dual image which, based on the angle at which it is viewed from, alternates between two modern, stylized holiday images by Canadian artist Steve Hepburn. The first image makes use of the cool colours of blue and violet to set the tone for a wintery scene: soft snowflakes drifting down from the twinkling night sky onto the forest below. Flanked by two smaller trees, one evergreen stands prominently in the centre of the image field. As the coin is angled, lenticular technology cleverly causes the images to switch. The tree occupies the same central position but in the second image, the viewer is transported indoors where the tree has now become one family's Christmas tree. The shining moon from the first image is replaced by the glowing star-shaped tree topper, as two young girls adorn the tree with the last few ornaments. There is energy in the air as the children take part in this cherished holiday tradition, undoubtedly awaiting the moment when they can unwrap the neatly wrapped gifts that are at their feet. The vibrant colours of red, green and yellow offer a visual representation of the warmth and energy that fill the air during the holiday season.

Holiday Toy Box

Canadian Coins 50 Cent 2015 Holiday Toy Box

The holidays are a whirlwind of activity, and this coin's double-image design catches all the action from a child's point of view. First, we see a toy box, tidy and expectant on Christmas Eve, but tilt the coin and the box overflows with all the new toys that were unwrapped on Christmas morning. Young or old, this coin is pure fun.

Obverse: Susanna Blunt’s design of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Reverse: Designed by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel, your coin recaptures the magical childhood memories that surround the holidays with a nostalgic look at an old-fashioned, wooden toy box. As the central focal point of the dynamic design, the toy area in the first image seems relatively quiet on Christmas Eve as most of the toys have been carefully put away inside the toy box and wrapped gifts holds their secret content ready to be opened at the right time! To the left of the toy box, an acoustic guitar leans against the wall beside the window while a stuffed rabbit sits on the floor in front of it, gently worn from years of being a well-loved companion; on the other side of the toy box lies a wooden rocking horse and a spinning top. Once the coin is tilted, a second image shows the remarkable transformation on Christmas morning: the toy box is now overflowing with a bounty of newly unwrapped toys! A model airplane hangs above the lid, which can no longer be closed with all of the new additions to the toy box, among all, a basketball, a teddy bear, a locomotive and a doll. On the windowsill sits a world globe for a would-be adventurer to look up new places to see, while an antique style metal toy car on the floor seems ready for any imaginary travel. A tin robot promises to add a sci-fi, futuristic twist to any storyline while in the front of the toy box lay a few colourful toy blocks. The selection is dizzying for a grateful young child, who will surely have a hard time selecting which toy to play with first; but the scene is also a reminder for grown-ups of the simpler joys to be had, and the ways in which life can bring delightful surprises.

While debate rages over whether he is a saviour or a false god, SUPERMAN has become widely known following the destruction of METROPOLIS in Man of Steel. Meanwhile, BATMAN has always preferred to remain in the shadows and rarely allows more than a fleeting glimpse of him in action. As a result, the DARK KNIGHT is considered a vigilante by most—and a myth by others. While the two characters seem worlds apart they share a common purpose in the fight for justice that makes them "two sides of the same coin"—as symbolized on this exclusive coin.
The intricate, ultra-modern design combined with expert craftsmanship results in a valuable, one-of-a-kind movie memorabilia that is sure to be treasured by fans and collectors alike!

Obverse: Susanna Blunt’s design of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Reverse: The reverse design features a dual image that shifts between two ultra-modern, stylized silhouettes of SUPERMAN and BATMAN. The first image plays with light and shadows to present the silhouette of SUPERMAN in motion, his cape spread out behind him as he sails through the air and into action. Negative space within Superman's silhouette cleverly uses the red background to recreate the red S-shield that is famously emblazoned across Superman's chest. As the coin is tipped, lenticular (3D-like) technology causes the image to change to a second frame, which is a silhouette of BATMAN against a dark grey background. The cape that stretches from one side of the coin to the other is now webbed, as a bat's wings would be. The white of Batman's eyes emerge from the pointed cowl, while the physique that previously bore Superman's iconic symbol is now filled in as BATMAN springs into action in the shadows.
